Ceres

Hi! Ceres is Ceres’ name!

Ceres was discovered in 1801 by Guiseppe Piazzi, making Ceres the first dwarf planet ever discovered, but Ceres was not called a dwarf planet back then. Instead, Ceres was thought to be a planet, even before Pluto! Then, the Earth scientists found some small rocks called asteroids in Ceres’ path, so Ceres was though to be an asteroid. Then, in 2006, when the dwarf planets became a group, Ceres found a group of friends Ceres truly belonged with!

Ceres is small, even for a dwarf planet. Ceres is actually the smallest dwarf planet in the Solar System. Ceres is also the only dwarf planet to live in the Asteroid Belt between two planets called Mars and Jupiter. The other dwarfs live in a far away place called the Kuiper Belt, past a big planet called Neptune. Ceres may live far away from Ceres’ friends, but Ceres still loves them!

Ceres also has shiny spots on Ceres’ surface! The Earth scientists say they’re made of ice or salty water, which sounds so cool!
